Overview
Costa Rica is a beautiful, small country located in Central America. The program is very small with very few adoption agencies working with this country. Costa Rica is a Hague Certified country, and agencies must be Hague approved to place from this country.
Children Available for Adoption from Costa Rica: The Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI) is the Costa Rican child welfare authority and oversees all adoptions from Costa Rica. The Costa Rica Program is designed for older children (8 years of age), sibling groups (one child could be age 5 or under), and children that have one or more medical special needs (all ages). Both boys and girls are available for adoption through this program.
Parent Qualifications:
- Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 55.
- Couples must be married 5 years.
- Single parents are eligible.
Travel: The trip to finalize and pick up your child is at least 6 weeks in duration.
Timeline: Timelines may vary. After your dossier has been approved by PANI, you will then wait to be chosen by PANI as the parents for a child who becomes available for adoption. PANI requests that a family begin communicating with their child immediately upon accepting a referral.
