Many children throughout the world grow up in institutions, group homes, or fostercare with little or no opportunity to experience the meaning of a family. Through unique, licensed, and carefully supervised programs, many children now travel to the USA to be hosted during summer and winter breaks from school in their home-countries.

It is always hoped that through these programs children will find a permanent, loving family. It is for that reason that prospective host families understand that they should either be very open to the adoption of an 'older' child (above the age of 5 years), or that they be willing to strongly advocate for their host child.

Host programs will each have eligibility requirements for families, which will at a minimum require that all adults in the host-home have a criminal background check and go through a host-preparation program.
