Dr.Mark Lerner is a Clinical Psychologist, Author, Speaker and Traumatic Stress Consultant who focuses on helping people during challenging experiences. Since a significant number of adoptive children have been exposed to traumatic experiences, Dr. Lerner has a special interest in understanding the psychosocial and behavioral needs of these children. Dr. Lerner coined the term, "Adoption Stress." He maintains a clinical practice on Long Island, New York and regularly consults with individuals and organizations around the world. Dr. Lerner is Chairman of the National Center for Crisis Management and President of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.

He is the originator of the Acute Traumatic Stress Management intervention model and he has authored several books based on this model (www.ATSM.org, www.SchoolCrisisResponse.com and www.UniversityCrisisResponse.com). His latest book, It's OK Not To Be OK... Right Now, How to Live Through a Traumatic Experience (www.ItsOKNotToBeOK.com) has become a best selling publication for the Academy.

The United Nations has appointed Dr. Lerner as an Expert Consultant with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security.

Dr. Lerner maintains a special interest in helping adoptive parents to meet the unique needs of their children. He also collaborates with the Physicians at www.adoptiondoctors.com  and writes many of the adoption related articles for respected adoption websites.

He is also one of the many instructors for the  Adoption  education  information portal  www.Adoptioneducationclasses.com. This  Adoption education website is dedicated to spreading their professional  and experiences across the internet and the world.
