Peru
Adoption
Advocate for Peru
Overview
Peru is a relatively new and small program. Few adoption agencies work in Peru.

Children Available: At a minimum, children are 1 year of age at the time of adoption. In most cases, children are older. Available children include sibling groups and special needs children of all ages.

Parent Qualification: Applying parents should be between 25 and 50 years of age. Couples must be married for at least two years. Families having two or more children at home must be open to special needs children or children over 5 years old.

Timeline: After dossier completion until receiving referral, the timeframe is unpredictable / variable. It can take anywhere between 3 to 12 months. If one (or both) of the adoptive parent was born in Peru, the referral time can be shorter. In the case of older children, sibling groups, and children with special needs, the referral process is sometimes expedited.

Travel: In the case of an adoptive couple, both parents must travel to Peru to finalize the adoption. Stay in the country lasts for 4- 5 weeks. One parent may leave Peru after 2 weeks. During the stay, Peruvian social workers evaluate the child and family's progress.
