| Overview |
Children Available:
The average age of the babies is 8-12 months. Applicants over age 45 should be prepared for a child 12-24 months, and applicants over 50 should be prepared for a child 2 years or older.
Parent Qualifications:
The following are standard requirements to adopt a child from Nepal.
Married couples and single women between the ages of 30 and 45 qualify for healthy infants from Nepal. Between the ages of 45-50, parents qualify for toddlers, and between 50-55, parents qualify for young children ages two and above.
Married couples must have been married for at least 4 years prior to filing an application.
Single women between the ages of 35 and 55 may adopt from Nepal. Single parents with a child in the home are required to adopt a younger child.
Single men may not adopt from Nepal. This is a country-specific regulation.
Families with two children of the opposite gender are not allowed to adopt from Nepal. Nepal requires that families with one child must adopt a child of the opposite gender (ie: if you have a boy in the home, you must adopt a girl); families with no children have a choice in gender preference; and families with both a boy and a girl in the household are not allowed to adopt from Nepal; if there are two girls in the home, families must adopt a boy (and vice versa). However, any children in the household from a wife's previous marriage are not considered in the requirements. That is, if a wife has a son from a previous marriage living in the household, and the couple has a daughter, the couple is required to adopt a son as the wife's child from her first marriage is not tallied into the final total.
Parents can only have up to two divorces for each spouse.
Parents may adopt siblings as long as there are no children in the home presently.
Travel:
As of 2009, Nepal has a new program. It is unclear as to whether or not this program will require one or two trips to complete the adoption process.
Timeline:
Unknown at this time.
